Community Connection

Community Connection: Volunteer Activity

Friday, August 14
12:00-5:00 p.m.

Spend your first day in Toronto giving back to our host city by participating in the Community Connection Volunteer Activity.  Your time and registration fee will benefit Horizons for Youth (HFY), a 35-bed emergency shelter and resource centre for homeless and at risk young people aged 16 to 24.  In a safe and supportive environment, HFY offers counseling, life skills training, referrals, advocacy and after shelter support.  These services assist youth as they strive to establish themselves at school, at work and in the community.

This is your chance to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable people in Toronto.  The entire $75 fee to participate in the activity will help establish a training room at HFY, which will house workshops, group work and lessons designed to give youth the tools they need to live independently and excel in their lives.  The youth will learn how to prepare healthy meals, budget their money, manage their emotions, develop their communication skills and how to co-exist with others on a daily basis.

During this activity, you'll be cleaning out the current room, cleaning and painting it, building furniture, installing window treatments, hanging materials on the wall...and making a big difference in lives!  Wear work clothes and a smile.

For more information on HFY, visit www.horizonsforyouth.org.

Transportation:
All participants should meet ASAE & Center staff by registration at 12:00 noon on Level 200 of the North Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Boxed lunches and transportation to Horizons for Youth will be provided.
