Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego
*ASAE & The Center Statement, July 15, 2008: ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership are monitoring a possible boycott of the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, one of the key convention hotels for our 2008 Annual Meeting & Exposition, August 16-19. It is our understanding that a coalition, including some members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and their supporters, are planning a boycott of the property to protest a stance taken by the owner of the hotel in support of an amendment on the November ballot in California to ban same-sex marriage. It is our further understanding that protesters are not targeting the Hyatt Corporation – which has a strong and consistent policy of embracing and encouraging diversity in the workplace. Hyatt’s commitment to diversity has been reaffirmed in a letter directed to ASAE & The Center staff and members.
ASAE & The Center’s full Diversity Statement is as follows: “In principle and in practice, ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership value and seek diverse and inclusive participation within the field of association management. ASAE & The Center promote involvement and expanded access to leadership opportunity regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, nationality, disability, appearance, geographic location, or professional level. The organizations provide leadership and commit time and resources to accomplish this objective while serving as a model to other associations engaged in such endeavors.”
ASAE & the Center will continue to follow this ongoing issue at this hotel property and will keep our members, industry partners and meeting attendees informed of any developments.
